SIMON FUGLSANG ØSTERGAARD
Simon Fuglsang Østergaard is a futurist who specialises in the impact of technology on a business level as well as a societal level. Recently, he has been exploring have the nature and purpose of higher education will undergo significant changes to accommodate the profound technological and demographic shifts in societies and job markets of the 21st century digital economy.
Simon has worked with national and international clients and stakeholders within the fields of education and labour markets. In addition, he has worked with how technological advancement spurs new business models, as well as how increased automation affects labour markets, creates skills gaps and alters competence needs for the workforce of the future.
Additionally, Simon teaches the CIFS course From Megatrends and Scenarios to Strategy.
Simon understands how to communicate complex topics in a lively and inspiring manner and is able to contextualise potential future developments in a broader context. Presentations are always tailored to the specific purpose and needs of the client. Simon presents in Danish and English.
Simon was the project manager on the reports Rethinking Higher Education – Structural Transformations on the Horizon (2019) and Transformation of Trust – How Blockchain and Digital Identity Will Change our World (2018) and has presented the main conclusions at multiple CIFS’ events. Previously, Simon has worked on projects related to the future of higher education, and more broadly on a trends book with 100 global trends towards 2050.

MSc in International Economic Consulting from Aarhus School of Business and Social Sciences at Aarhus University
Work experience prior to joining CIFS:
- 2013-2016: Consultant in Business and Society, Danish Technological Institute
During his employment at the Danish Technological Institute Simon worked with policy and economic analysis aimed at creating knowledge and insights into strategic policy- and decision making. Clients included both national and international private and public actors, including ministries, the EU Commission and various other businesses and organisations.

Simon was invited as the opening key note to the European Bank for Reconstruction and development (EBRD) bi-annual Competitive Consulting Conference to provide his perspectives on the future of consulting. The event took place in Cairo, Egypt, with a participation of over 200 people from almost 30 countries.
