There isn’t much room for an optimist view of the future in 2018. But overall, things are better than ever – at least, if you ask Harvard professor Steven Pinker: We are less violent, and better educated, and there is less poverty than ever before, he says. In his new book, Enlightenment Now, he continues to plead for progress. We interviewed him for this issue’s main feature.
