A group of men stand in a circle and hum. They are at a men’s group meeting. This group cultivates self-help, but for many other men’s groups that have cropped up in recent years, the aim is to engage in gender and culture politics. Most of the groups think men are facing a crisis and that this crisis must be solved either by a revival of past male ideals or by rethinking what it means to be a man.
