New technology facilitates greater mobility, and today, most of us carry a combined workstation, entertainment centre, and research library around with us in our pocket or bag. The internet allows us to work from home or on the move. Travelling across the world gets ever cheaper, and new transport technologies like electric cars and biofuels promise cleaner mobility.
With growing urbanisation, new mobility solutions are required to ensure rapid, safe, and clean transport of people and goods in and between cities. Autonomous vehicles and drones will play an important role in this respect, as will improved public transport solutions.

Futures past: The Tupolev Tu-144
The Russian clone of the Concorde, the Tupolev Tu-144, had a brief, but spectacular lifespan. It came to an abrupt end when the plane crashed during an air show in Paris, killing 14 people. It is an example of a forgotten technology, built for a future that never came.
