Futures Thinking and Foresight Fundamentals
Small steps can eventually make a big impact. Our Bootcamp is designed as an inspiring introduction to the fundamentals of futures thinking and foresight, with the aim of cultivating a "futures mindset". This will better enable you to "use the future" to inform decisions made both today and tomorrow.
The bootcamp will provide you with:
-A robust introduction to the practices of futures thinking and foresight, as well as key concepts and approaches from the futures thinking and foresight toolbox.
-An increased consciousness of how our understanding of the future guides decisions today.
-A better awareness of how cognitive biases and path-dependent thinking can impair our ability to see beyond existing systems and thinking patterns.
-The opportunity to build knowledge and cultivate a "futures mindset" for your own futures thinking, which will lower the mental barriers for integrating futures thinking and foresight into your workflow, projects and organisational processes.
The Bootcamp can be facilitated live-online or in person as a three to four hour session or a full day. The session consists of a mixture of inspiring presentations, short exercises, and reflections - for up to 30 participants.

Explore how AI is reshaping foresight, and how these insights can be turned into opportunity spaces, innovation directions, and decision-relevant options in organisational contexts.
The landscape of foresight and how we prepare for the future is being fundamentally reshaped as AI moves beyond mere efficiency gains to actively influencing how futures are perceived, imagined and constructed. It is changing not only our workflows but the core practice of foresight itself.
In a context of this larger reshuffle, the shift calls for new lenses to understand how AI is shaping foresight, and what this means for strategy and innovation. In this evolving practice we need to rethink the relevance, methods and role of futures work and futures-driven organisations in an AI-Augmented world.
Rather than focusing on “how to prompt” or technical tool training, this course uses real-world cases to explore how AI is reshaping the practise of foresight, but also innovation, organisational design and strategic decision-making. Now and the future. Together with participants, we identify which elements are transferable in their organisational context - and what this implies for redesigning their own AI-Augmented foresight processes.
The organisational training course will provide you with:
-A shared understanding of AI-Augmented strategic foresight, including how AI is reshaping scanning, sensemaking and scenario work and what this means for innovation and strategy.
-The ability to interpret signals, uncertainty and AI-generated insights - and translate them into decision-relevant implications for innovation and strategy.
-A critical, AI-literate perspective on the systemic effects of AI on judgement, evidence and futures thinking.
-An overview of emerging AI-Augmented foresight workflows, moving from individual tool use to the design of collective intelligence, governance and oversight.
-A basis for reconsidering and redesigning processes in your organisation in response to an AI-Augmented context.
The course is facilitated by CIFS Senior Futurists and AI experts Sofie Hvitved (Futurist | Director, Head of Media Futures & Innovation | Co-lead H3 AI Lab) and Bugge Holm Hansen (Director, Head of Tech Futures & Innovation | Co-lead H3 AI Lab).
This is a structured space for exploration, dialogue and re-imagination focused on how AI is reshaping foresight practice and how foresight insights can be turned into opportunity spaces, innovation directions, and decision-relevant options in organisational contexts. The course is designed to support collective sensemaking and informed judgement, grounded in CIFS’ foresight expertise.
This can be delivered either in Copenhagen or at your organisation and is available in formats ranging from a half-day bootcamp to a two-day course.
Prices starting from 8.000 EUR
How to develop ‘innovation with impact’
It’s a truism that the majority of innovation activities – including areas such as product, service, policy, environmental, technological, and social innovation – are marked by failure.
In response, the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies believe in encouraging futures-driven innovation (FDI) as a catalyst for positive change that adds value.
Our approach is to illuminate innovation theory, note best-practice and leading-edge trends, but crucially adds to this by leveraging futures-thinking, combining all of these as a catalyst to develop innovation with impact.
That’s why CIFS helps our clients explore for potential future activity by highlighting friction and opportunity spaces for adaptation and growth c/o a view that solutions are best found in a spirit of being curious, imaginative, and collaborative.
Our training / courses on FDI include actionable views on anticipatory-leadership, how to build a ‘Now-Next-Why’ innovation culture, insights into leading-edge approaches and implementing futures-literacy. We illuminate how this can be input across different time-horizons, in the context of ‘possibilities and implications’.
End results are intended to be a clear understanding of the practical application of futures-thinking to progress your innovation plans towards a ‘desired future’.
The core modules covered in the course are:
· Thought-Leadership re: innovation & futures
· Anticipatory Leadership & building an Innovation Culture
· How to leverage trends, drivers of change & scenario planning
This course will provide you with:
· Understandings of futures-literacy and best-practice innovative thinking
· Views on rejuvenating organisational approaches to develop next-gen innovation
· A takeaway set of FDI slides and refreshed ‘applied knowledge’ for immediate activation
The programme is facilitated either as a full day session (or two days if involving internal client input e.g. coordinating with business announcements / launches) and is held at the client’s location. It combines a mixture of instruction and facilitated group activities, hence there’s plenty of opportunity for discussion to contextualise topics and embed learnings.
