Organisational Training

At the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies we offer training programmes exclusively for your organisation to help you integrate foresight and futures thinking into your organisational processes and strategic decision-making. Our experience tells us that when you decide to actively engage into the same learning experience as your colleagues, the learning outcome automatically becomes "stickier" throughout the organisation. This better enables your organisation to transform valuable foresight into actionable insight!

All our training programmes are designed by our experts who bring their knowledge and expertise from working daily with strategic foresight and futures-oriented issues. The instructor-led training is built around maximum engagement and actionable, hands-on learning, with the right balance between relevant theory and tangible strategic foresight tools for your professional work.

Bootcamp - Using the Future

Futures Thinking and Foresight Fundamentals

Small steps can eventually make a big impact. Our Bootcamp is designed as an inspiring introduction to the fundamentals of futures thinking and foresight, with the aim of cultivating a "futures mindset". This will better enable you to "use the future" to inform decisions made both today and tomorrow.

The Bootcamp will provide you with

  • A robust introduction to the practices of futures thinking and foresight, as well as key concepts and approaches from the futures thinking and foresight toolbox
  • An increased consciousness of how our understanding of the future guides decisions today
  • A better awareness of how cognitive biases and path-dependent thinking can impair our ability to see beyond existing systems and thinking patterns
  • The opportunity to build knowledge and cultivate a "futures mindset" for your own futures thinking, which will lower the mental barriers for integrating futures thinking and foresight into your workflow, projects and organisational processes

The Bootcamp can be facilitated live-online or in person as a three to four hour session. The session consists of a mixture of inspiring presentations, short exercises, and reflections - for up to 30 participants. This creates an interactive learning experience with the desired level of feedback.

Course - Applied Strategic Foresight

Bringing Futures Thinking and Foresight into Strategy

This programme unites futures thinking and foresight with strategy and dives deeper into the application of different tools and techniques for better strategy and policy anticipation. It is based on a case relevant to your team and takes participants through both a thorough foresight process and on how to transition from foresight outcomes to strategic and policy action.

The course will provide you with

  • Solid insights into the megatrends that shape the future and how they may affect your organisational environment
  • An introduction to the practice of strategic foresight and experience with applying practical tools from the futures thinking and foresight toolbox
  • The ability to recognise and make sense of trends and developments, as well as a structured process for understanding dynamics of change influencing your future organisational environment
  • The ability to co-create alternative views on the future and frame robust alternative futures with decision-making relevance
  • The opportunity to build knowledge and cultivate a "futures mindset" for your own futures thinking
  • A deep understanding of how to always connect foresight to strategic purpose in order to operationalise foresight outcomes into actionable strategic and policy action-steps that inspire change

The course is designed to be highly experiential and can be facilitated live-online with multiple three to four hour sessions, or in-person at our location in Copenhagen or at your organisation over the course of two to three days. Participants are capped at twenty to ensure an interactive learning experience and a desired level of feedback.

Course - Emerging Strategic Risk Management

Bringing Futures Thinking and Foresight into Risk Management

This programme helps organisations look beyond the immediate or short-term risks that can be easily identified and quantified. Traditional risk management is often operational in nature and rarely paint the full picture of relevant strategic threats that a company or organisation may face over the medium- to long-term future. Too many organisations suffer from strategic short-sightedness or over-reliance on known operational and market risks.

The course will provide you with

  • A structured process and concrete tools to ensure that risk management is not limited to known operational and market risks, but also addresses longer term emerging strategic threats and uncertainties
  • Confidence in leveraging foresight and futures thinking as tools in strategic risk management
  • The ability to make sense of critical uncertainties and understanding dynamics of change influencing your future strategic risk environment
  • Knowledge of how to create a risk/opportunity radar and link emerging strategic risk assessment to enhanced strategic decision-making
  • The opportunity to build knowledge and cultivate a "foresight mindset" for your own strategic risk thinking

The course is designed to be highly experiential and can be facilitated live-online with two half-day sessions, or in-person at our location in Copenhagen or at your organisation over a full day. Participants are capped at twenty to ensure an interactive learning experience and a desired level of feedback.
